Default Cheshire gap showers

For anyone who isn't familiar with Cheshire Gap showers, there's a
nice example today on the 1330 radar. The 15 minute animation showed
the showers running in a line from near the Isle of Man through the
Wirral and the Cheshire plain, down to Birmingham. The only other
showers in the region were isolated ones over the high hills of Wales
and the Pennines.

Incidentally, the showers were running precisely parallel to the
tightly spaced isobars shown on the 12Z and 18Z Exeter "fax"
charts.

I should know Dave as I've been getting wet every time I've left the
control room here at work since I started at 7am.
Not very nice conditions at all, being cold and wet,but typical of
showers running inland from the Irish Sea at this time of year,
best regards and Happy New year to everybody,

Alan
