Default Today's model interpretation (3/01/04)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Wednesday. Issued
0643z, 3/01/04.

ECMWF: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm1201.gif
A ridge covers France and SE England, with SSW'lies across the UK. The winds
become SSE'lies at T+144 as a secondary low moves over Cornwall. The low
then moves SE'wards at T+168, leaving a trough over Scotland. Elsewhere,
winds are westerlies.

MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html
The Met Office run shows two loes to the SSW and SW of Iceland, resulting in
southerlies and SSW'lies over the UK. The winds become SW'lies at T+144 as a
trough crosses the UK.

GFS: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn1081.gif
SW'lies and southerlies cover the UK, with a deep low to the SW of Iceland.
The winds become WSW'lies at T+120 as a trough crosses the UK, while 850hPa
temperatures range from -1C over Northern Ireland to +5C across Kent. The
chart for T+144 shows a series of lows extending from Newfoundland to
Germany, with westerlies over the UK. The winds become southerlies and
SW'lies again at T+168 as the next low moves closer to the UK, followed by
WNW'lies on day 8 as the low moves NE'wards to the north of Scotland. The
winds become SW'lies and southerlies yet again on day 9, as the low
recentres to the WNW of Scotland. The low deepens to the west of the Faroes
on day 10, leading to WSW'lies for all.

GEM: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rgem1201.gif
A deep low lies to the SW of Iceland, leading to strong SSW'lies and
SW'lies for the UK. 850hPa temperatures vary from +1C over Northern Ireland
to +5C over much of southern England. The SW'lies continue at T+144 as a
secondary low forms to the NW of the UK.

JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html
The Japanese run also shows SSW'lies and SW'lies, as the result of a low to
the SSW of Iceland. 850hPa temperatures vary from freezing over northern
Scotland to +4C over Cornwall. Westerlies cover the UK at T+144 and T+168 as
a low moves ESE'wards to the north of Scotland. The westerlies continue on
day 8, with another low to the north of the UK.

In summary, the models continue to show a prolonged spell of westerlies,
SW'lies and SSW'lies for the UK.
