Default Are these examples of extremes on Topkarten site?

A happy New Year to you all.

Just idly browsing a moment ago, I came across something I hadn't noticed
before on the Topkarten site

Go to:

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten/fsreaeur.html

then click on "Neu Jetzt DVD erhaltlich!" . To my untrained eye it looks
like a selection of extremes over Europe but I have absolutely no German
at all which might help me further. Certainly, the charts for 27th Feb
1990 and 27th July 1983 looked interesting for the parts of Europe
affected.

(I seem to recall that late winter 1990 was unusually mild too)

Has anyone else noticed them?

- Tom.

It says that the archive of the American NCEP re-analysis charts from 1899
to the present day is now available on DVD. For each day the charts show
sea-level pressure, the height of the 500 hPa level and the 850 hPa
temperature. The DVD contains almost 60000 charts arranged in
chronological order - nearly 3 GB of data.

The charts displayed are examples - extreme cold in February 1956, severe
gale in February 1990, 40°C heatwave in southern Germany in July 1983,
wartime winter in January 1940.

The DVD costs 25 euro including postage and can be ordered by sending an
e-mail to the address given headed "DVD
Bestellung" (DVD order) and indicating the address it should be sent to.

It says .......... SNIP

Many thanks Colin, for the prompt and wonderfully complete translation so
freely offered.

I can now go to bed with at least one of life's little mysteries
completely solved. :-)

Regards,

- Tom.
