Default Wrong again - though out on the sea yesterday was superb!

What you guys don't realise is when your sport / pastime is based on hoping
for classic days (cross shore Westerlies 30knts) - forecasts that prove
wrong really mess with our heads, luckily most of us guessed right about
yesterday though we were always looking to the west for signs of approaching
weather.

Sunday am started off still quite windy, about 27knts - then as daylight
broke wind dropped back to 20knts - decided to go out at 09:45 as high tide
was 13:30 which, if the wind did come through would make it nigh on
impossible getting out through shore break and waves, not healthy!!

Went out in about 18knts, not good, then had to come bcak in an change to a
larger sail, by the time I had walked back to the beach the wind had come
back - so bcak to the original sail - wind around 11:00 was WSW at 23knts -
what made yesterday was the mild temps and sunshine at East Preston, between
Worthing and Littlehampton - and then the wind started increasing to around
27knts - so yet again come back in and change sail, this whole process takes
about 20 minutes - by then tide was up and waves were quite large which made
launching quite hazardous - well at least the wind was there, which helped
me smash out through the shore break with out coming unstuck....

Once out to sea (on a windsurfer - very short surf type) you look back to
land and see the clouds inland racing over the South Downs - you always keep
a watchfull eye out to the West to see what might be coming through, and
quite often in advance of the cold front, wearing a wetsuit you can feel the
temp drop - but yesterday stayed bright and sunny till it was time to pack
up - (13:00) - then became overcast and the wind never came through.

So here we are today, waiting for the big storm - I do not think we'll get
it, rain now falling heavily, pressures dropping but I think it'll pass us
by and we'll come out the other side....hey, what do I know.......all I can
say, is when you're out there, you get to know the vagaries of fronts as
they track through.....I think if we were in for big winds we'd have it by
now - unless there's a second dip out there.....

The low has passed Penzance, and was a big non event. Plenty of rain (40mm
in last 48 hours) but no gale, let alone a storm. Strongest gust in the last
24 hours was in a thunderstorm yesterday afternoon (49mph). In this part of
the country it has to gust over 60mph for people to take much notice.

Big swell, but nothing unusual. Up to 20 foot at Sevenstones (off Land's
End) but sometimes exceeds 30 foot in Autumn/Winter, and reached 25 foot a
couple of days ago.

Well Mark, me being the old salty sea dog type reckons we'll get no more
than 35knts when and if there is more out there....so two hours to go to
wait and see - I have my camera with me so if and when it clears up I'll nip
down to the beach and take some pix.

inshore try and tell us what's going to happen on the sea - totally wrong -
you're only hope now is as the front tracks through we'll get a strong
N'wly!!!

BTW as at 12:20 skies clearing and wind in the North!!!! Classic tracking of
front!!
