Interesting weather in other parts of the world:

SAVC 130000Z 27017G29KT CAVOK 29/M09 Q1006

SAVC is Comodoro Rivadavia, a large oil town on the east coast of Argentina at
46°S, and the METAR is for 8 pm local time. This sort of thing is not all that
unusual, due to the predominant westerlies from the elevated table-land of
Patagonia. Today's max was 34°C. Sea-breeze effects, when they occur, are
quite spectacular. Recommended.

Hi Tudor,

A fantastic article in National Geographic last month on Patagonia,
more of a report than a small article. Some lovely pictures too of
the wonderful landscape. Are we assuming a fohn effect to create
this tmeperature ?

Joe

A 24 hr history of the metars is most revealing:

For longer history, alter the 24 at the end to whatever (up to 360)

Seen the same thing on those rare days in Melbourne metars aswell, a drop
from over 40C to 20C in hours when the wind shifted round to the sea. Must
be welcome...

Comodoro Rivadavia, along with Rio Gallegos and Ushaia in the far
south, was, I believe -- no doubt someone will correct me if I'm
wrong -- one of the main airfields the Argentine air force used
during the Falklands War.

It is always warm and dry at this place in a strong westerly and there must
be something of a föhn effect, both from the Andes and the quite elevated
tableland immediately inland. The area is a west-wind desert almost, mean
annual rainfall about 180 mm.
(Philip) I know someone who's been there in connection with the oil
industry. They're very friendly, the Argies, and are probably glad, secretly,
that they lost the Falklands War, because it enabled them to get rid of
Galtieri.
