January has almost reached it's mid point and the prospect of any
wintry weather seems further away than ever now. February maybe our
next chance, but in these warmer climatic days I don't hold out a lot
of hope there either.

I feel cold and misirable, fed up with going to work in the dark and
coming home in the dark, so am looking forward to spring and summer.

The month is currently averaging 2.0°c above the mean temperature and
61% of rainfall, I would imagine that by the end of the month the
won't change much.

Views are obviously pointed for the SE of the UK only.

Hi Keith, if it's any consolation, it has been a pretty poor winter up here so
far as well. Tons of rain (literally !), plenty of wind but very little in the
way of cold weather. I've even had 4 days of double figure maxes this month :-O
Seen snow falling and walked on a sprinkling of a cover on a couple of
occasions, but hey, big deal :-(

I won't be really happy until I get a good 6 inches or more.

Will.

Here in Gloucestershire we have had the most boring dull damp weather going!

It would appear that all the "fun" passes to the north (Mid - North Wales)
and across the south but only as high as Dartmoor. I'm stuck in the middle
watching whats going on either side of me. Even a tornado decided to burn
itself out before reaching here!

I couldn't agree more Keith. I'm now very definitely in the "roll on
April/May" mode. Bring on the pleasant but not excessive warmth, longer days
with light evenings and dry ground again. I don't know where the supposed
snow hit but other than on top of the Malvern Hills, there's nothing here,
just more continuous wet misery. Unless there is some decent proper 'winter'
weather with bright days and hard (not necessarily dry) ground, IMHO, this
is by far the most depressing time of the year.

I know not everyone shares my view on desirable winter weather though.

Roll on Spring, it can't come soon enough.

It's certainly exceptional for it to snow here in Canterbury. I've been
here for over four years and only remember it snowing twice - both last
year.

I'm heading north for my annual Lake District trip next week and so far
I've never been there without it snowing, so hopefully the trend continues!

Exactly how I feel Keith - I think our hopes were raised by our luck locally
with all the snow this time last year.

I haven't even recorded a single air frost this month (though one night
fell to exactly 0.0C, which doesn't count IIRC).

Look on the bright side. At least the weather is far better than it was
last August.
