Default 12Z Model Summary - Friday 16th January 2004

Charts analysed are for T+96 hours - 12Z Tuesday 20th January 2004

UKMetO:

High pressure (1025mb) over the Azores, with another high (1025mb)
over Northern Scandinavia. Low pressure (1000mb) lies over the
Polish/Russian border, with another low (965mb) well to the west of
the UK in the Atlantic. Winds across the country are moderate
west/northwesterlies in the southwest, but lighter elsewhere and
variable in direction. Most areas will be rather dry and cloudy, with
some sunshine at times. Temperatures will be close to normal in most
parts. Beyond this the Azores High tries to link up with the
Scandinavian High before more unsettled conditions try to move in from
the Atlantic towards the end of next week.

(1025mb) lies over Northern Scandinavia. Low pressure (995mb) lies
over Southeastern Europe with another low (970mb) well to the west of
the UK in the Atlantic. Winds across the country are mostly moderate
west/northwesterlies. Most parts will be mainly dry and cloudy with
some sunny spells in places. 850hpa temperatures are close to +3C in
many places. Forecast 2m temperatures are close to +10C in all parts.
Beyond this there is little change, with most parts seeing mild
Atlantic winds and some unsettled weather at times.

cloudier with some rain in the northwest. Temperatures will be close
to or just below normal. Beyond this most parts turn rather unsettled
and windy as Atlantic systems move in.

towards Scandinavia. Low pressure (995mb) lies over Western Russia,
with another low (965mb) well to the west of the UK in the Atlantic.
Winds across the country are mostly light west/northwesterlies. Most
parts will see mostly dry and bright conditions under the ridge of
high pressure. 850hpa temperatures range from 0C in the east to +7C in
the southwest. Temperatures will be close to normal. Beyond this mild
Atlantic air moves in across the UK with most of the unsettled
conditions in the northwest.

Low pressure lies to the northeast of Britain over Scandinavia.
Another low (964mb) lies well to the west of the UK in the Atlantic.
High pressure (1031mb) lies over Northern Portugal. Winds across the
country are mainly light to moderate west/northwesterlies. Many areas
will be at mainly dry and bright, but with variable amounts of cloud.
Temperatures will be close to normal.

Summary:
Most parts look like being mostly mild next week, with most of the
unsettled weather towards the northwest of Britain.
