That huge mass of red over Russia is hurting my eyes.

Having said that, just recorded my first air frost of the month
today at -2.0C.

You MAY be a little premature in your dismissals! If the GFS 312 hour

forecast
at www.wetterzentrale.de pans out, then we're in for a REAL cold snap from

the
east - particularly in the south (a la Feb 1986) as it predicts an 850mB

temp of
between -12 & -14C with biting east winds! This last happened in that cold

snap
in Feb 1991 and for longer in Feb 1986 as well as that killer cold snap in
mid-Jan 1987.

I wait with baited breath!!

Nigel.

So do we all. I like the title of this one,"And if it's Cold Weather from
the East you're After.........".

I am tempted to reply, Yes and we'll have a bloody long wait.
Here in East Anglia this is one of the most boring winters I can remember.
In many ways we have had neither one thing nor the other.
My lowest temp so far is -3C. The mildest daytime this winter 13C. No
chains of frost, and no chain of exceptionally mild figures either, though
the absence of frost has put this winter into a mild category.
