I know it's a bit long after the event, but I thought you may be interested
some photographs I took back on the 24 October 2003 of a circular hole in
high cloud, seen near Blandford Forum, Dorset. I was reminded of them when I
saw the item on the BBC News site about a similar thing happening in Mobile
Alabama -

I have since found that there was a thread started by Maurice Gavin in this
group about similar cloud formations over SW London just a few days earlier,
on 19 October.
