I know it's a bit long after the event, but I thought you may be interested
some photographs I took back on the 24 October 2003 of a circular hole in high cloud, seen near Blandford Forum, Dorset. I was reminded of them when I saw the item on the BBC News site about a similar thing happening in Mobile Alabama - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3394461.stm I have since found that there was a thread started by Maurice Gavin in this group about similar cloud formations over SW London just a few days earlier, on 19 October. Anyway, you can see my images at www.mybitoftheplanet.com/forums/cloud.html I don't usually point my camera skywards, but it was the first time I had seen one of these.
