Default 12Z Model Summary - Tuesday 20th January 2004

Low pressure (975mb) lies to the east of Iceland. High pressure
(1025mb) lies towards the Azores and ridges north, with another high
(1025mb) to the southwest of Britain. Another high (1025mb) is settled
over Western Russia. Winds across the country are moderate to fresh
west/northwesterlies in most parts. Most areas will be rather cloudy,
with rain at times in places. Temperatures will be close to or just
above normal in most parts. Beyond this pressure builds to the
northwest of the country, introducing much colder north/northwesterly
winds and an increasing threat of wintry weather moving south.

high (1025mb) over Russia. Winds across the country are mostly
moderate west/northwesterlies. Most parts will be mainly cloudy with
some rain in places. 850hpa temperatures are close to -2C in many
areas. Forecast 2m temperatures are close to +8C in many parts. Beyond
this pressure builds to the northwest of the UK, introducing much
colder and potentially wintry weather from the north.

high (1025mb) is developing. Winds across the country are mostly light
to moderate west/northwesterlies. Many areas will be mainly dry and
cloudy, but perhaps with rain in places. Temperatures will be close to
normal. Beyond this most parts turn cold and wintry as pressure rises
in the Atlantic to our west/northwest.

with rain in places. 850hpa temperatures range from 0C in the south to
-5C in the northwest. Temperatures will be close to normal. Beyond
this conditions turn much colder as pressure builds to the
west/northwest of the UK, bringing wintry showers to many parts.

Low pressure (970mb) lies to the northwest of the UK. High pressure
(1029mb) lies to the southwest of Spain and Portugal. Winds across the
country are mainly moderate to fresh southwesterlies. Many areas will
see rain moving across from the west during the day. Temperatures will
be close to or just above normal.

Summary:
Most models, with the exception of NOGAPS, show conditions to turn
colder as we go through the weekend, with the possibility of very cold
and wintry weather during the early part of next week, especially in
the north and east.
