That was the one which forecast 37C by the end of the week and guess what, as we all know it was correct. The only countryfile forecast in my view that could beat that is one which forecasts the opposite, as it is winter, and that is one that forecasts -27C or lower or forecasts snow in excess of 1 metre in the London area. After all, that has never been done, so it would be a record. What was forecast on August 3rd 2003 was something that was to be a record, and so it was. I really doubt that someone is going to forecast something that breaks all our winter records. As don't forget those temperatures last August are now new records. -- ************************************************** ************************** ************************************************** * Gavin Staples. website updated regularly www.gavinstaples.com For the latest lecture in the Darwin Lecture Series in Cambridge, please click on my site, and then click on the Darwin Lecture series link. I remember the BBC forecasts back in Dec 81 or Jan 82 where the forecaster
(Mr Fish rings a bell) advised that they had had to make up some new blue temperature symbols, as they were forecasting record low temps (minus 26c I think)... I've still got recordings somewhere of the sensational late Dec '95 cold spell. The blues on the map got so dark they were practically black! That is what I recall too. It was on the 9.25pm forecast when the main news was at 9pm. Already by that time, Shawbury was down to about -26C IIRC. -- Mike 55.13°N 6.69°W Coleraine posted to uk.sci.weather 24/01/2004 17:47:02 UTC Temp 3.9C Pressure 1013mb steady |

Can't see tomorrows being that special to tell the truth. Just the coldest of this winter so far. |

The lowest temperature ever recorded was actually Newport, Shropshire
at -26.1c, Shawbury pretty much the same at -26c. I did work experience in the Met Office at RAF Shawbury and the forecaster i worked with was on shift that day.... he said it was already -19c by 4pm that afternoon. Pretty cold. Remember that, for a while it looked like Scotland might lose the British Record, until Braemar pitched in with a cold 'un. Richard Webb |
