Default 12Z Model Summary - Saturday 24th January 2004

Low pressure (995mb) lies close in the North Sea, with another low
(995mb) close to the Polish/Russian border. High pressure (1025mb)
lies over Greenland and ridges south into the Atlantic to the west of
Britain. Winds across the country are moderate to fresh
north/northwesterlies veering northeasterlies in the north. All areas
will be cold with sunshine and snow showers, heaviest and most
peristant towards the north and east. Temperatures will be below
normal. Beyond this there is little change with bitterly cold
north/northwesterly winds in many parts, along with some potentially
significant snowfall in places, although it may turn less cold towards
the west later.

mostly moderate to fresh north/northwesterlies. Most parts will see a
mixture of sunshine and snow showers, with most of the snow towards
the north and east. 850hpa temperatures range from -12C in the
northeast to -5C in the southwest. Forecast 2m temperatures range from
-3C in the north to 0C in the southeast, and +5C in the southwest.
Beyond this conditions remain bitterly cold for a time with bitterly
cold winds and further snowfall in parts, especially in the north and
east, before perhaps breaking down from the southwest next weekend.

this most parts remain cold and wintry.

(1035mb) lies over Greenland and ridges south into the Atlantic. Winds
across the country are mainly moderate to fresh northerlies. Many
areas will see a mix of sunshine and snow showers, especially in the
north and east. Temperatures will be below normal.

Summary:
A very wintry outlook from all models tonight with the most of next
week looking bitterly cold and potentially very snowy towards the
north and east. Most models keep the cold going through to the second
part of the week, although there are hints of a return to milder
conditions next weekend.
