Default What a fabulous weekend's weather in the South

Something that seems to have been missed among all the doom and gloom
about the coming week's weather.

Here on the South Coast it's been basically sunny throughout, with
light winds, crisp mornings and gentle ground frosts (or a slight air
frost inland), touching 8 to 10 degrees in the afternoons. Perfect
Winter weather for most people and a complete transformation from the
previous few weeks.

Far too little attention has been given to this weekend's wonderfully
exhilarating weather (down here) IMHO.

Hi Dave

Just come back from an 11 mile walk on Dartmoor.

Yesterday we had showers around midday and sunny spells.
Today we started bright and frosty (wonderful sunrise !) but we have had rain
since 1300 with a brief spell of hail and sleet on Snowdon hill. Temperature ATM
is 5.0 deg C and falling slowly. If the rain gets heavier it could turn to snow
tonight.

But yes it is all too easy to get wrapped up in charts and models to forget the
lovely weather happening NOW, that's one reason I leave the computer alone for
periods ! But I couldn't resist it this afternoon :-)

Will.

I totally agree Dave. In fact I have done a little web page of our trip
out into the "sun" earlier today. There are a few cloud images -
particularly out to sea where there was still a little convection. It was
a bit chilly up at 1000 feet though with ice around still.

I must agree.

Virtually unbroken sun here in East Yorkshire, and feeling springlike.

Fabulous here in the Coulsdon area. Read the Chipstead Valley screen with
minus 4.4C this morning[ no air frost at Coulsdon] then went to the crest of
North Downs up at around 250 metres and enjoyed the views. Sunny, hardly any
wind and that rain down in the Southwest was only a line of cirrus and cirro
stratus in the far distance. A few cumuli developed but quickly
dissipated. To remind me that it was winter some frost in the shade still at
13.30 hrs when I finished the walk though air temperature 6C. Radiation and
evaporation from ice surface into clear sky maintained the frost patches.
Yesterday there was a hail shower on the Downs at 16.30 hrs but otherwise a
marvellous weekend.
