Default North Yorkshire past weather

I am doing some research on severe weather, and trying to pick up on some of
the impacts from heavy totals. Some of the storms of yesteryear do put
recent storms in perspective (1958 was a bit naughty - according to a copy
of British Rainfall salvaged from a skip!)

Anyway, I am looking at North Yorkshire at the moment and 1993 stands out
as being pretty eventful, specifically 13 November, 16 September and 4
August in the North York Moors area. Totals were over 80mm per day. Does
anyone remember any serious flooding there at the time?

Whilst I'm at it, a station near Catterick Garrison recorded a localised
fall of 128mm on 24 April 1971. I think a bridge got smashed with that one;
were there any other impacts does anyone know?

(If anyone remembers the great Skipton floods of 79 and 82 I was there!)

I will have some questions for North Wales and Northamptonshire as well...

Hope someone can help,

Cheers,

Dorian

Default North Yorkshire past weather

Hi Dorian,

I have lived in North Yorkshire for 7 years in the yorkshire dales.
We had a lot of rain in June of the 3rd and 4th 2000- Richmond bridge was
badly damaged and was shut for about a year to be repaired and the swing
bridge over the swale at Reeth was lost to the flood waters- that has been
totally repaired and is open again.

Hope that helps.

We get a lot of rain here. There is always flooding here.

Nigel.
