On balance I would say that forecasts for this current cold spell were very
accurate. We ARE getting a flow of very cold arctic air. Snow has fallen in amounts which have varied from place to place, as is usual in this type of situation. Nothing of course like the long cold spells of past years- 1963, 1947 etc, but it was never forecast to be so. Conditions somewhat extreme in places nevertheless. Dishforth's 1300 actual caught my eye ...a mean wind 21 knots gusts 38 knots. snow AND a temperature of minus 2 is quite nasty. As always the media 'overhyped' certain features as they always will. This has obviously overwhelmed some people. Cheers John -- York, North Yorkshire. (Norman Virus Protected) |

I would say very good especially on the snow. Will's was one of his best
IMHO. I think the temperature was the biggest problem as it has fluctuated a lot and if it had been 2C colder across the board I think the use of words such as "bitter" and "severe" would have been more justified. Remember it is still unfolding as we speak. Dave. S.Essex. 2.7C 15Z "John Whitby" wrote in message ... On balance I would say that forecasts for this current cold spell were very accurate.
