1925
28/1/04

Squall line just gone through.
1700-1800 rain and hail showers after previous snow showers. Temperature rising
in increasing F6-7 westerly ahead of front.
1830 temperature 3.3 deg C in rain showers.
Circa 1837 squall hit the house with 5 mm hail lashing against window.
1840 Heavy hail and snow.
1845 Thunder and lightning circa 2 miles away.
1850 Pressure had jumped 3 mb since last observed at 1830
1850 Level snow 1 cm and rapidly rising
1900 Temperature 0.2 deg C
1915 Light snow and big flakes, snow depth +2cm. Lovely crunching sound !
1920 All over, moon coming out. Final snow depth 2-3 cm.

Best squall line I've seen for about 10 years !
Brilliant on the radar display line stretching right across the south.
We are now in true Arctic air, children off out to make a snowman, and I'll be
off for another brief walk on the moor to be followed by a brandy in front of
the log fire.

Life doesn't get much better than this !

Snowy cheers,

Will.

Nice one Will, glad what we all got went down to you in the end. It would've
been a bit unfair if you were the only one who missed it!
It was odd in that today was like a microcosm of your forecast all in one
day. Although it was never as cold as it might have been I think that squall
and front showed people what might have been in the dire scenario. i.e.
couple of degrees colder and same conditions for 2-3 hours.
Enjoy the walk,

regards, Dave

Don't be so hard on yourself Joe -it's only one letter.
Good luck with the exams!

No snow here in Redruth, West Cornwall. About an hour ago we had a rain
shower, which turned briefly to hail. Probably the same line of showers as
Will's shock and awe. Temp now +3C.

Just about 6 1/2 hours after it hit us then. Glad you got it Will,
certainly quite a blast. I really do wish I'd taken some movie footage
(even at the low resolution on the stills camera) as the murky
photograph doesn't really show what was happening.

Ice day today, max of -0.4C about 20mins before the front hit.
Currently (2330): -6.3C virtually no wind.
