Ah, but once the roads are gridlocked, the gritters can't do anything
anyway!
In Rugby, the local readio station announced that both the gritters owned
by
Rugby yown Council were "stuck in traffic". And so was everyone else
anywhere near the place.

They cannot win, if they are out 'too early' or there is no snow, everyone
slags them off, and if they turn up with the snow people are already
screwing up and they cannot get through

About ten or more years ago some friends and I had to drive back over Snake
Pass in March. Drizzle at the bottom, snow at the top and we were stuck in a
queue. Two cars had had a shunt. Someone had just pushed both off the road
to make sure the rest of us could get through before we were ALL stuck
