Went out on usual trip around the downs in the car earlier today, there was
plenty of squally rain bursts and strong gusts about but it wasn't long before the wind started to worry me. I couldn't stay out in the rain too long, so in brief drier spells, I took some readings with my trusty Diplex hand-held anemometer. Peak gusts I measured were 39.6mph @ 4pm, 42.5mph @ 4.10pm and 43.3mph by 4.15pm at Walbury Hill and that's before the wind was getting too dangerous to be out on the roads. I know these readings don't quite reach the levels that have been reported elsewhere but nevertheless I find them intriguing, they also correlate well with weatheronline. Any more reports anyone.
