Default Cliché of the year award "One I made earlier"

My suggestion would be 'and forecasters say the worst is yet to come' -

not only because its a cliche but because it is almost
always, unerringly wheeled out precisely when the worst has actually

come and gone!

You sort of beat me to it: For the same reason, "and there's more to come"
is intensely irritating and usually equally inaccurate.

I loathe the visual clichés on TV reports, which are wonderful examples of
dumbing-down:

1. The deep snowfall, with fluffy deposits clinging delicately from every
tree, which is accompanied by a soundtrack of whistling wind - obviously
superimposed.

2. The reporting of the aftermath of a gale. Although you can see that
it's now flat calm, there's that whistling wind, again (don't those
enormous microphone hairy socks actually work, then?)

3. The TV producers' overwhelming need to reinforce/dramatise/emphasise
the weather in their reports: Outside broadcasts of shivering presenters
in cold weather (although clad in all sorts of woollies), soaking
reporters in floods (I've just seem one poor sodden soul reporting on the
18.00 BBC News from the Conwy Valley), sending reporters to the top of the
Cairngorms to emphasise how bad a snowfall there has been in Scotland, or
to some ridiculously exposed headland when it's windy.

I'm sure that there are plenty more.
