Well, I don't think there's much disagreement that "at least it'll be mild"
wins January's cliché of the month competition.

Can I propose we identify a cliché of the month every month this year,
then in December vote for the winner, and make an official award to
the most frequent perpetrator. What we need to do, although there's
no urgency, is to identify an appropriate prize.

Philip,

if you are prepared to share the award around this group how about
'looks promising' which for around six months of the year appears
whenever the weather ten days out might just possibly turn cold and
generally unpleasant.

Regards,
Tom

For February, it will probably be: "I'm writing this winter off."

perhaps someone ought to set up a place on a website where people can place
their suggestions secretly and we can compare at the end of the month?

Although it does strike me as a shade incestuous to go round forecasting
forecasters. Mind you it cannot be any more difficult than forecasting the
weather

:-))

I was thinking more in terms of TV presenters' chichés, but I
don't see why usw contributors should be disbarred.

Tom,

Unfortunately, that could well discourage ng contributions. Having
worked most of my life encouraging everyone to make comment, I welcome
the vast majority of posts as long as there is no foul language.
