The general pressure situation for the period 21st to 29th February 2004
shows a change to the cyclonic SW airflow we've been having these past
months. Now, the Icelandic LP has moved to the N and NE of Scotland. A
further area of LP lies out in the Atlantic (35deg to 40deg W) The
Azores HP extends a ridge N'wards to SW Ireland, while a belt of HP
extends from Ireland, across the North Sea to N Germany and Poland.
There is a risk of a LP area over France and NE Spain.

Winds in the S of the country could generally have an E'erly
direction. In the NW and N of the British Isles, winds are expected to
be generally from the SW. In central areas of the country, winds are
expected to be generally light and variable

Whereas dryer conditions are expected in most parts, S England and
the NW of Britain should have the most rainfall.

London's temperaature trend falls at first to be low near the
22nd, February and then rises generally near 28th February before
falling near 29th. Small dips in the temperature curve are expected
near 22nd, 24th and 29th. Small peaks are expected near 21st, 23rd
and 28th. Grass minimum temperature may be low near 23rd

London's rainfall is expected to be most near 26th and 27th.

Glasgow's temperature trend is expected to be steady at first but falls
near 25th and 26th to rise near
27th and 28th. Small dips are expected near 21st, 27th and 29th.
Small peaks are expected near 25th and 28th.

Glasgow's rainfall is expected to be most near 26th and 27th.

Strong wind days are expected near 21st - NW Scotland and SW
Norway, as a large secondary approaches from the Atlantic. near
22nd - off S Iceland as a LP moves E'ward towards S Iceland. near
23rd - off W Scotland as a LP lies S of Iceland. near 27th - off
W Scotland as a LP lies off W Scotland.

The general run of weather over the period starts with LP near SW
Iceland and a secondary LP sweeping across the British Isles. Behind
the secondary LP, pressure begins to rise from the SW and this
stretches into the near continent so that on 24th February, an area of
HP covers the North Sea, Germany and Poland. Another small LP
approaches Ireland from the Atlantic and drifts slowly E'wards to be
near S England on 25th February. A HP ridge builds up N to S in the
Atlantic just W of Britain on 25th and 26th, but this does not appear
to move the slow moving secondary LP near S England and its parent LP
near NW Scotland until 27th February. On 27th February, HP comes
into the near continent via Biscay and France. . It forms a HP area on
28th February over S Britain, Germany, S Scandinavia and Poland,
which is moving E. On 29th, the LP which was out in the Atlantic, now
covers part of the country.

On 21st February, a medium to large sized LP lies near Iceland with a
trough SE'wards and a small LP near Wales. Pressure begins to rise to
the W of Ireland. Winds will be southerly in the E of the country and
W or NW in the W of the country. Many places will have rain showers for
most of the day, but weather will improve in the W later.

On 22nd February, LP comes in to the S of Iceland and has a trough
E'wards to Scotland. The Azores HP has a ridge NE'wards towards S
England. An area of HP lies over France, Germany and Italy. Winds
will be light variable or W over most of the country but in the W of
the country, winds will be SW orW.Some showers will occur in the N but
fairer weather will lie in the S of the country.

On 23rd February, a deepening medium to large sized LP lies to the S
and SW of Iceland. with a possible secondary developing on its SW
flank. A trough stretches E or NE'wards up to central Norway. A
belt of HP stretches from W to E across Biscay and France, Germany,
Poland and Russia. Winds will be SW in the N and W of the country and
light W in the S of the country. Belts of rain will cross N and NW
areas, but fairer conditions cover the S.

On 24th February, a medium sized LP lies near S Iceland with a trough
and secondary depression on its S flank just SW of Ireland. There may
be a small wave in the Biscay area. An HP area covers the North Sea,
Germany, Poland and the Balkans. Winds will be light in the E of the
country and S or SW in the W. Fair weather in the E will be replaced
by showery weather spreading in from the W later.

On 25th February, the medium sized LP has moved to the N of Scotland
and the secondary on its S flank lies near the Channel. The Azores HP
builds up N'wards to lie to the W of Ireland. Winds will be S or SE in
the S of England at first, but cooler N winds in the W of the country
spread E'wards.

On 26th February, a trough stretching N to S from the weaker depression
near E and SE of Iceland lies down the centre of Britain and into the
S North Sea. The trough and possible secondary LP moves away
E'wards. The Azores HP stretches N'wards as far as Iceland and has
intensified. Cool N to NW winds cover the W'ern half of the country.
Weather will be rainy with possible wintery showers coming into the
W and NW of the country.

On 27th February, a small HP area over extremt SE England, France and
the North Sea slips E'wards into Germany and Poland. Behind it, a LP
lies near S Iceland and thiss moves slowly E'wards. Winds will be light
SW in the S of the country, but stronger SW in the N and W of the
country. It will be fair at first in the S and SE of the country, but
belts of rain cross the country from W..

On 28th. An HP area remains over the near continent and a small to
medium sized LP lies near the S of Iceland with a trough stretching
S'wards to the NW of Ireland. Winds will be S over the country.
Showers cover most parts and general rain will spread in from the W and
NW.

On 29th February, a LP area stretches from the SW of Iceland down to W
Scotland and SW England. Winds may be SE in the E of the country and
NW in the extreme W of the country. Shwers and general rain will fall
in most parts.
