Default Yesterday's cold

Yesterdays max of 1.7°C here in Warlingham, Surrey, 556 ft, looks today to
have been slightly freakish, and it was not well forecast. The night was
frosty (min -2.5°C) but today the fresh ENE'ly has resumed and the temperature
is nearly up to 7°C. No low cloud but 8 oktas of thick Ci.
On a synoptic scale, very little appears to have changed. Possibly a
slight backing of the surface wind? Today is also warmer in Belgium and
Holland.
Yesterday I said to myself "this is a proper easterly, nasty as ever" but
today we seem to back to an improper one. Any ideas?

No ideas, really, other than modification by warm North Sea, Tudor. But I was
thinking who'd be a forecaster?! Yesterday had max of 2.8 C with forecast of
7C. Today forecast was dropped to 5-6C probably after yesterday and we got
8.5C! To think the amateurs on TWO forum are trying to get it right for next
week. Fun maybe, but no chance!

One antonym of "proper" is "rude".

It could indeed be called a rude easterly in my garden where I am trying to
work. I keep having to retire to the computer screen to warm up.

The air was inherently colder yesterday, Tudor. Eg, Herstmonceux at
1100Z yesterday had a 1000/500mb TT of 530.1Dam, 1000/850mb TT of 128.0
and a web bulb freezing level of 238FT. Today values are 541.4Dam,
132.4Dam and 2853FT respectively.

Maximum today 5.7°C in St Albans on a much brighter day than yesterday
although there was a lot of Cirrus here as in Warlingham.
