Default Weather station software

I recently bought a WS2500 weather station. I would like to connect it to
my PC but I'm having trouble getting Weather Display to work with it
properly. It will read the time and some status from it OK but it doesn't
seem to read the weather data very well. Does anyone know what I might be
doing wrong?

Also, is there any other software (preferably cheap or free) that I might
try instead. Does anyone know where I can find out the protocol used to
communicate with the station so I can write my own software?

Thanks
David
