Default CB at Hurn

EGHH 032050Z 21019G35KT 5000 RA BKN009CB BKN018 10/11 Q1008

Somewhat unusual to see CB (embedded) reported at night in a frontal
situation with no sferics or reports of TS.

Jon.

No sign at of any at Odiham at 2150Z - Southamptons's gone to bed..

Pretty wet and windy here at Guildford 3.0mm so far, but I think the front
has just gone through here as the wind has dropped off in the last 15mins.

Hmmm. Given the upper trough present, the radar and quite threatening
looking satellite imagery I don't doubt the presence of some embedded CB
tonight, but whether the ATC observer at Hurn could genuinely distinguish it
from everything else is another matter. Furthermore any CB is more likely to
be in the vicinity of the leading inner cold front (
http://imkpc3.physik.uni-karlsruhe.de/pics/bracka.gif ) which at the time of
those obs was still seemingly well west of them.

...and then there's Gatwick EGKK 032150Z 21014KT 170V230 9999 RA FEW009
SCT012 10/09 Q1009 ... but I'll stop there !

Hi Jon,

That must have been a particularly wetting CB because it resulted in their
dewpoint temperature becoming higher than the dry bulb ("10/11" in METAR). By
my reckoning, this gives an RH of.......
105% (approx)

Nigel.

There was a rainbow over Hurn as seen from Wimborne about an hour ago, say
8pm. Could the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow have affected the
readings
in some way?

Cheers, Alastair.
