Default Today's model interpretation (6/04/04)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Saturday. Issued
0608z, 6/04/04.

ECMWF: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm1201.html
As with the previous few runs, northerlies and NW'lies cover much of the UK,
although due to a ridge over the UK NE'lies cover southern England. The
ridge sinks southwards at T+144, allowing NW'lies to affect all areas. The
winds strengthen and become northerlies over Scotland at T+168, with NW'lies
elsewhere.

MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html
The Met Office run shows a ridge over Scotland, with NE'lies for England and
Wales. The ridge moves slowly SE'wards at T+144, bringing WSW'lies to
Scotland and Northern Ireland, with lighter winds for England and Wales.

GFS: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Rtavn1201.gif
A ridge covers the UK, bringing westerlies to Scotland and Northern Ireland,
with NE'lies or NNE'lies elsewhere. 850hPa temperatures range from -4C over
NE Scotland to +1C over Wales. The winds become westerlies for all at T+144
as the ridge moves southwards, followed by NW'lies at T+168 as another weak
ridge moves SE'wards. That ridge also moves away on day 8, leaving WNW'lies
for the UK, before the Azores High moves eastwards over Biscay with
westerlies for all. On day 10 a new high builds to the west, with WSW'lies
for all.

GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
The Canadian run also shows a ridge over the UK, with westerlies and NE'lies
much as with the GFS. 850hPa temperatures vary from -4C over East Anglia to
+1C over Northern Ireland. By T+144 the winds become NW'lies as the ridge
moves southwards over the English Channel.

JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html
Moderate northerlies and NE'lies are affecting the UK, due to highs to the
WSW of the British Isles and over Iceland. 850hPa temperatures range
from -8C over northern Scotland to freezing over SW England. The winds
become lighter westerlies, NW'lies and northerlies as a ridge moves over the
UK at T+144, followed by WSW'lies at T+168. By day 8 the UK lies under
SW'lies with a deep low west of Scotland.

In summary, the models now show a ridge moving across the UK during the
Easter weekend, with milder NW'lies, WNW'lies or even westerlies likely as
the new week starts.
