Sea breeze convergence maybe ? Flick XCW to temperature and you could see
why.

Default South Downs convergence???

Just got back from Virginia Water. We had a slight rain shower there at 4 pm
local, and it looked quite dark to the east when we left at 6 pm. Also shows
up well on the radar as a NE-SW line of echoes over SE England.

.... looks like we have just (up to 18Z) missed out, but as you say
Bernard, a close-run thing he your observation ties in with my
sighting of apparently deeper convective clouds to my east or
east-northeast late this afternoon.

Maximum today 16.1degC .. highest for this month (so far), and despite
the cloud cover, with light winds (only temporarily Bft 3 or 4 as deeper
convection initiated), it was a most acceptable day for April.

Martin.

Actually it was a Hindhead Convergence. Returned from Portsmouth today, and
I can confirm a moderate SW sea breeze. Quite a cool one at that - enough to
make my 16yr old daughter wish she had taken her parents advice about an
extra layer of clothing! As Martin has mentioned, sprouting CU visible
inland. The cloud disippated out to sea. Ive posted a couple of images on
the web site but they are quite faint - but you can just make out the clear
skies over the Channel and some low SC over the IoW. On the way home a -SHRA
at Hindhead enough to dampen the road but that was it.

I was 1 mile north of the South Downs this afternoon around 4pm.There was a lot
of convective cloud buildup with some narrow but classic shaped Cb all around.
The biggest supprise was the amound of mamma forming under what looked to me
like altocu?
