Default [WR] Thunder heard - Bracknell Tawfield

1710Z
low, distant rumbles of thunder heard for past 10 minutes ... wind
around Bft 5 (freshened up over past couple of hours). Notable shear
from low to middle levels: low level wind from due north, medium level
flow (from AC) from due *south*. Horizon from SSW to S to E to NE dark
and menacing, but with the murk around, no convective tops discernible.

Martin.

1725Z update ...

slight rain (-RA) for past 5 mins or so, with still distant thunder
(TS). Wind freshening just a little more.

Martin.

Default [WR] -TSRA continues Bracknell Tawfield 1800Z

At 18Z, thunder now near-overhead; single lightning 'flash' observed,
but CC rather than CG. Still only slight rain here (largish drops). Wind
very flukey .. up to Bft6 for a time around 1730Z, then Bft4 ocnl5 at
18Z, now nearly calm!!

Going off-line now as I don't trust the power supplies around here.

Martin.

.... back again.

Sequence was:-
1820Z slight thunderstorm (i.e. low flash-rate), moderate rain.
1855Z thunderstorm ceased (by 10-min rule); moderate rain continuing.
1900Z-1930Z moderate ocnl heavy rain.
1930Z rain slight intensity.
2000Z still raining - slight .... 6mm at that time (since 1720Z)
[Lots of frogs about!!!]

During the 'TS' element when the storm was at its closest [1720Z-1855Z]
10 discharges noted - most intra-cloud/CC, and *no* CG observed in the
immediate vicinity.

Nothing like the intense activity further east of course ... but then we
had our 'event' back in 2000!

Martin.

Martin,

Ive posted a pic on the web site of the only 'gap' in the rain - which shows
some tops to the clouds.
