Depressingly hot regards, Fotis Well if TWO accept barbourne as an official temp and say they got it right, then that would be outragous. We shall see what happens. Most interesting of all would be the Bookies' reaction if Barbourne and nowhere else reached 100 deg F. It is, when all said and done, an official reporting station is it not? I think they'd have to pay out UNLESS the Met Office publicly rejected the reading. Now that *would* be interesting, commercial pressure entering the Barbourne debate ![]() -- Dave |

![]() ================================================== ================== This posting expresses the personal view and opinions of the author. Something which everyone on this planet should be able to do. ================================================== ================== Hey Fotis, I'm still sticking with my 33.6 deg C in the West Midlands/East Wales area. Boy am I glad I now live on Dartmoor. the weather here this week will be superb, maxes circa 25 deg C with a strong sea breeze in the afternoon. Grass is still green and may even slow down its growth this week meaning a well earned rest for my mower! As for TWO and charlatans, he he he - no comment :-) We may see quite a strong easterly next week which will peg temps back on east coast to circa 22 deg C and may make London less hot than expected. Also the 15-16 degC temp. difference between sea and land could mean some very strong (almost gale) sea breezes in places). The Solent westerly could be a F5-6 at times making for some interesting sailing weather. Good time for haymaking as I mentioned in my forecast summary on thursday. Outside chance of a thunderstorm in convergence in parts of the south, but as we all know the main feature will be heat and I wouldn't mind betting we will see reports of heat stroke casualties next week with 31-32 deg C quite widespread. My advice - get yourself to the coast or near to the coast unless you like baking. Nights will be uncomfortable, probably unbearable in London area with temperatures not falling below 20 deg C and it may be that the night time *minimum* high record could be broken. I'm off outside now to enjoy this beautiful, glorious, fantastic Dartmoor summer ! Unfortunately I agree with that and I am convinced that this time next week even the most fanatic fans of hot weather will regret it! I believe some places will get up to 35-36°C towards the second half of the week and some local records will be broken. Actually, I think that the chance that even the national record (37.1°C?) will be broken is not very remote especially of course at the infamous Barbourne. It would be interesting to see what would happen if Barbourne exceeded 100F! (I would give it a 30-40% probability given its history!). MetO may disregard it but that of course wouldn't limit all the noise that would come from TheWorstOutlook (TWO) nor would suggest anything about their charlatan forecasting and publicity seeking screams. What is the record? Is 24C from 1990(?) official. I think it was London WC mind.... |
