Default Today's model interpretation (4/05/04)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Saturday. Issued
0605z, 4/05/04.

ECMWF: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm1201.html
The UK lies under low pressure, with easterlies for Scotland, northerlies
for Northern Ireland and westerlies for southern England. The low sinks
southwards at T+144, leaving the whole of the UK under easterlies. By T+168
the winds become northerlies as the low moves away to the SE.

MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html
The Met Office run shows southerlies and easterlies for the UK, with low
pressure over Ireland. The low fills over the North Sea at T+144, with light
winds for much of the UK.

GFS: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Rtavn1201.gif
A deep low lies to thr WSW of Ireland, resulting in easterlies for Scotland
and Northern Ireland. Other areas lie under a slack trough, with light
winds. 850hPa temperatures vary from freezing over Cornwall to +5C over
northern Scotland (+7C for Shetland). The winds become northerlies at T+144
as the low moves southwards over Biscay, followed by more northerlies at
T+168. The winds become southerlies and SW'lies on day 8 as a weak ridge
moved swiftly across the UK. The chart for say 9 shows moderate westerlies
for all, with lows to the NW and NE; by day 10 they merge and deepen over
the North Sea, with strong to gale force northerlies and NW'lies for the UK.

GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
The Canadian run shows a slack low atop the UK, with easterlies for Scotland
and light winds elsewhere. 850hPa temperatures range from +1C over southern
England to +5C over northern Scotland.

JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html
NE'lies cover Scotland and Northern Ireland, due to a low over the North
Sea. The low brings northerlies to Wales and westerlies to much of England,
with 850hPa temperatures ranging from +1C over southern England to +7C over
northern Scotland. The low fills over England at T+144, with northerlies and
easterlies elsewhere. Easterlies cover much of the UK at T+168 as the low
fills over the English Channel, followed by northerlies and NE'lies on day
8, with high pressure stretching from the Pole to the Azores and beyond.

In summary, the runs still show an unsettled, generally cool weekend. Beyond
that, things are less certain; the MetO shows SW'lies returning, while the
GFS and JMA show a northerly blast. As ever, more runs are needed.
