Now unless the government have been testing a new plane, I guess that wind
might be to blame for this. www.toon-army.com/sky2.jpg Taken 15/5/04 Washington, Tyne and Wear. Regards Paul |

I've never seen anything like it before. Try some of the aviation newsgroups? JB |

I am a little puzzled why you find it weird. I would guess that you were looking NW and the trailing aircraft did a routine turn over the Newcastle VOR (radio beacon) and then set heading for his next point (perhaps the Talla VOR or maybe Glasgow) The thinning of the trail at the 'kink' is probably simply a coincidence that the aircraft happened to pass through a patch of less moist air at the very point it made its turn. Straight contrails often have gaps/thinning for this reason. Jack (and just to bore those who already know) retired airline pilot / current glider pilot (but we don't leave contrails!!!) |

Paul, Ive posted a similar image taken on the 19th Feb here at Guildford on
the web page- As Jack has mentioned, I'm afraid they are just ordinary contrailing overflights.. [Apologies to Phil, I initially sent this reply directly to him
instead of to the group] Sorry, I seem to be missing something here..... I live directly under the flight-path out of Manchester airport, and see contrails of all shapes and sizes. What seems unusual about these particular contrails to you both? There doesn't appear to be anything unusual about them to me. BTW, please disregard the email address in the headers of this email, it is an address which has been addressing spam to my personal email account, and I am hoping that they will receive some of their own treatment! Joe,
There is nothing unusual about the contrails. I only took the picture because it was sunset and it was orange! Phil |

Everybody -
This particular contrail which I caught a few years ago has something of the "oh, EXPLETIVE DELETED" about it... but according to Jack Harrison it's an abrupt manual course change (: http://82.39.120.183/bestof/ispy2901.jpg Les "Paul Appleby" paul@6amDOTcoDOTuk wrote in message news:40a72d49$0$6333 --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Sorry, Phil. I usually equate "Strange" to mean "Unusual".
