Default Today's model interpretation (03/08/03)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output, for noon (GMT) on Thursday.
Issued 0611z, 3/08/03.

ECMWF: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm1201.html
As with many runs over the past few days, easterlies and southerlies cover
the UK due to a high to the NE. There's little change at T+144 and the T+168
chart is unavailable.

MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html
The T+120 chart is missing its isobars today. The T+144 chart shows a large
high over the UK, with moderate westerlies for northern Scotland and light
winds elsewhere.

GFS:

High pressure lies to the east of the UK, with light southerlies for most
areas. The high continues to drift eastwards at T+120, allopwing stronger
SSW'lies to affect Ireland. 850hPa temperatures range from +10C over
northern Scotland to +18C over southern England. By T+144, high pressure
covers the North Sea, with light easterlies and southerlies for the UK. The
high builds at T+168, leading to SE'lies for most. By day 8, a small low
lies to the west of Scotland, with southerlies over the UK. The low moves
northwards and deepens on day 9, leaving light winds over the UK. A new high
covers much of the UK on day 10, with easterlies for England and Wales.

GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120_e.html
Scotland and Northern Ireland lie under westerlies, with a ridge over
England and Wales. By T+144, southerlies cover the UK, as the ridge builds
northwards. The southerlies continue at T+168 as a low deepens and moves
eastwards to the south of Iceland. High pressure covers the UK on day 8 and
it drifts NE'wards on day 9, bringing easterlies and southerlies over the
UK. On day 10, winds become light and variable over much of the UK as
another ridge builds from the SW.

JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html
High pressure lies to the west of southern Norway, resulting in easterlies
and southerlies over the UK. 850hPa temperatures range from +15C over
northern Scotland to +18C over southern England.

MM5: http://rain.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/plots/n...6hrn.hr120.gif
The UK lies under northerlies and NW'lies, with high pressure over the
Celtic Sea.

In summary, the runs persist in showing a mainly settled outlook, although
there are starting to be some considerable differences with regards to the
intensity and positioning of the high. As ever, more runs are needed.
