Last year I visited the UK for the first time. Arrived for a 10-day stay in
the Cotswalds, specifically Walton, Warrickshire. Within hours of arriving there, I had to put away all long-sleeves and sweaters I had brought from Florida in anticipation of the "cool" climate. A day or so later, you were in the midst of a heat wave. I ended up sleeping on the bathroom tile floor, and sometimes in the tub, as the facility had no fans for its guests and all local stores had sold out of them. The only a/c available to me as the temps rose was the one inside the car I hired. Lucky. I now plan to visit London for 10 days, this time in mid-June (vs. last year's mid-July visit) and just noticed the high today for London at around 25 C. Now, should I forgo the long-sleeves this time and plan for weather in the mid-20s (or higher?) when I arrive 18 Jun? Thanks for any info. Paul |

The typical maximum shade temperature for mid to late June in London would be something like 20C. But anything between about 15C and 30C wouldn't be too unlikely. Of course, early mornings and late evenings can be noticeably cooler than the day's maximum. So I would pack at least one long-sleeved woolly. -- John Hall "Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened." I think it's marvellous this perception of Southern England being cold in
summer. Last year, we had a South African from Jo'burg staying with us. She found our humid heat quite oppressive compared with what she is used to (and so did we Brits of course) The major thing about British Climate is just that - it is climate with averages. Rarely are two days the same. So as John Hall points out, 15 to 30 daily max in June are quite 'normal' in London although the average is probably nearer 20 degrees. (care - we are talking about degrees C) So expect almost anything and you won't be bored. And yes, pack a woolly. Jack |

Well, it's a perception only, since I've been to England once before and, as
I mentioned earlier, I happen to have struck when your heat wave started last July. However, it's been at the urging of some British friends here that I take with me a "wooler" or "jumper," along with some long-sleeves. Implication being that cool weather can be expected. Thus, I ask. Now, mind you, this is coming from someone who lives in SW Florida, where the temps this time of year tend to be quite predictable (Hi 88F, Low 68F plus humidity, day after day, after day, etc.). It seldom varies as the hi's creep up into the 90s as the summer progresses. We are in the midst of our "dry" period right now, stretching all the way from Nov-Dec into mid-June. We have had some light showers come off the Gulf of Mexico, but nothing to get excited about. They're isolated and may well wet the roof of my neighbor across the street and not mine. It is only during the "transitional" cooler (some dare call it "winter") months between Nov and March-April that the temps can actually vary by more than 5 - 10 degrees on a given day. So...yes, I'm naive about the climate in Southern England and hate to pack more than one bag, if at all possible. Thanks for the tips, though, they're informational and are actually helping me decide what to bring along. My brother lives in Honolulu and "complains" about the same thing: How monotonous the climate is in Hawaii :-) Cheers. Paul "Jack Harrison" wrote in message ... Jack I have long argued that the words "normal" and "average" mean very different things when describing climate. The Meteorological Glossary disagrees. It defines "normal" as "The name given to the average value over a period of years of any meteorological element ..." Nevertheless, I agree with Jack's comments above regarding "normal" and "average" temperatures in London in June. Norman.
