That the bushs and tree's are alot brighter and more
intense than last year? , everything is so green and flowers are in
full bloom!. Wonder if its due to the amount of rainful we've had so far
compared to the dry days of last.

The last 4 months have been dry here in Penzance, considerably drier than
last year.

The Feb-May inclusive total is currently my lowest on record, (records
started 1991) although I admit there are still 11 days to go.

25.0mm rain in the last 30 days and 22.4mm so far in May, compared with
114.4mm during May in 2003.

It has also been a very sunny month.

I'd agree with that. Also, I've got a lilac bush and its scent this year on
a calm night is positively sensuous. (no pun intended).

I'm thinking of moving to Cornwall as it always seems to be sunnier than
everywhere else and now drier than everywhere else as well!

Agreed nguk.

I put it down to the lack of air frost in April.

I have never seen apple blossom so abundant.

Norfolk is wonderfully green at the moment. With the hawthorn blossom out too,
the hedgerows are looking and smelling wonderful.

Cheers.

Digressing...

Are there fewer bees this year? I've got a honeysuckle and a ceanothus in full
bloom and where in past years, the blooms on each have been *smothered* in bees
busy collecting nectar & pollen, this year there's hardly a bee to be found :-(

Cheers.

I think if you remember last year the summer had been written off as we
entered June as it had been so wet, and look how it turned out.

For Plymouth it has been a fantastic May so far. The only rain was early
last week in a thunderstorm. Blue sky and feeling very warm in a very light
breeze, almost calm.

I am amazed thogh how when I drive to Exeter how it ends up a lot more
cloudy there. I think it is probably due to convergence down the centre of
the SW penninsula

Hi Stan,

In last 2 weeks we have had some wonderfully sunny and warm mornings up here on
Dartmoor whereas lower down and towards Exeter they have been plagued with low
cloud and fog.

Neil, yes the flowers are lovely and I think it is down to the lower incidence
of frosts in April and May which can quickly "take the edge" off plants.
Certyainly that's the case here with no frosts in April and only 2 days with
snow falling.

Will.

Funny you should say that. We were in Darlington yesterday and I
thought the trees were looking fantastic. We travelled back via
Teesdale, and I actually wound the window of the car down - I thought
the glass must be making the colours particularly intense - positively
lurid in fact. Still looked just as good. I don't know if anyone
remembers Orwo film. Really cheap stuff that did strange things to some
of the colours - and it was like looking at some of those old photos.
