Default More info on the Dominican Republic rainfall from Metcheck

This is what Metcheck said about it. I just found this a few moments ago.

Dominican Information
Added [Tuesday June 01 2004 : 3:10:42 PM]

Over the weekend we had around 20 emails asking us about the Dominican
floods which have of course been in the news for the past week, we thought
we'd offer a bit of insight into what caused this level of destruction.

The rains were caused by a slow moving and stagnant area of low pressure
which originated in Central America and crossed the Caribbean affecting
Hispanola during 18-25 May. Rainfall amounts exceeded 500mm (19.7 inches)
during this period. The heaviest recorded was in Jimani where 10 inches fell
in just 24 hours causing the Soliel River to burst it's banks.

My Comment:
Incredible. Thanks again to Keith and Philip for
the figures you put up in reply to my first email on this topic. By the way
I like your websites both of you:-)

Regards, Gavin.
