The Azores high (1024 mbar) was in its normal position, slightly
more intense than average, with some ridging evident towards Ireland. The Icelandic low was not prominent, the main centre displaced to Quebec (1010 mbar) and there was also an anomalous low centred over northwest Russia (1010 mbar). Pressure was also relatively low over much of southern Europe and the Mediterranean, while high pressure (1022+ mbar) sat over the Arctic basin. The maps are now on www.climate-uk.com The main anomaly centres we -6mbar NW Russia -4 mbar Quebec -2 mbar Algeria +4 mbar southwest of Ireland +4 mbar Arctic basin Over the British Isles, pressure was 0.5 to 3 mbar above the 1961-90 mean in all areas with a weakly northerly anomalous flow. (It is interesting to note that the pressure anomalies were rather different, between 1 mbar below and 1.5 mbar above, when compared with the 1971-2000 mean).
