Default [WR]Funnel cloud near Copley

Hi, all,

As I mentioned the other day, I was contacted about a tornado in
Teesdale. I now have the photograph, it is not a tornado but a funnel
cloud and was taken by Peter Levett in Ovington. It was seen between
1215 and 1245 on Sunday 30th.

These are very unusual in our area. I have put the pic on the Copley web
site for anyone interested - front page and recent pictures page,
second one down.

Best wishes,

Reply from Peter,

"From your description, Ken, it was indeed a funnel cloud. It was quite
high up and tailed out before it reached the ground. The clouds around
the top (the funnel itself) were visibly rotating. The top stayed
relatively still while the middle and bottom sections of the tail were
slowly snaking around. At first it was a tight tail with clearly defined
edges but after 15 minutes or so it started to spread out and became
wider and more hazy. The whole sight was a lot more impressive than it
looks on the photo."

Peter
