Jon. Certainly, I have been watching the Luton DPs for years and get the feeling they are someway off the mark. I'm on 27/11 for what its worth. Bedford 25-30mASL |

Dry bulb 26.1 and RH (from hygrograph) 40% ... just 4km from Luton airport. Sorry, I ain't got me Hygro Tables handy, but I guess that gives a dew-point considerably lower than 17! Philip Eden |

I was showing a dew point of 14°C in St Albans (abot 10 miles from Luton airport)at midday; the value has flctuated between this value and a maximum of 17°C at 0800 hrs. Outside termperature currently (15:30) is 28.1°C. Alan |

Now Temp 26.3c in Guildford, Dew Point 14.
I'm surprised that the PAMOS does not calculate the Dew point from the AWS - as the Davis - and cross check with the actual wet bulb. Phil |

I have learnt to ignore that aspect of the report. (Actually, Luton had a similar problem last year) Someone at Bournemouth needs to dip his wick more frequently. Jack |

Don't we all. I have noticed an intermittent problem at Luton for years. During the hot spell in Aug 1990 the dewpoint as reported on VOLMET crept higher and higher, ending at over 20, whereas everywhere else had 11-13. There have been many other instances and I am always highly suspicious. Perhaps there's a new branch of physics called Lutonian Mechanics. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |
