Well it had to end, after 8 warm, and exceptionally sunny & dry weeks, we
had 29.4mm rain in the 24 hours up to 09:00 today. The 3 hours 15:00 - 18:00 saw more rain than in the previous 6 weeks. The early hours of this morning saw a gust of 51mph, a new June record (my records start 1992), It's all come rather too late for the farmers. I was on a farm near Padstow last week, where the barley's ripe, almost 1 month early. Unfortunately it's rubbish, as it's been far too dry, and it's ripened to quickly. It's probably even more rubbish now, as I suspect it's been flattened! Sea temperature reached 17.8 degrees off Land's End last week, only 0.2 degrees lower than last year's max of 18.0 at the end of August.
