Default Today's model interpretation (8/07/04)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Monday. Issued 0559z,
8/07/04.

ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif
Moderate NW'lies cover the UK, due to low pressure over southern Norway and
a ridge to the west. The NW'lies continue at T+144, but they become much
lighter for most at T+168 as a ridge moves over the Celtic Sea. By then,
SW'lies cover Northern Ireland.

MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html
A small high lies to the west of the UK, with NW'lies and NNW'lies. The
high becomes a ridge over the UK at T+144, with SW'lies for Scotland and
Northern Ireland; the remainder of the UK lies under variable winds or light
NNW'lies.

GFS: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Rtavn1201.gif
The UK also lies under NW'lies, again due to a ridge to the west and a low
to the NE. 850hPa temperatures vary from -1C over northern Scotland to +3C
over East Anglia. A ridge moves over Ireland at T+144, with NW'lies
elsewhere, followed by WSW'lies and SW'lies at T+168 as the ridge builds
eastwards. Day 8 sees another ridge move over Ireland, bringing WNW'lies for
the UK. By day 9 the ridge becomes a high over the Low Countries, with
SSW'lies for most. The winds become southerlies on day 10, with low pressure
deepening to the SW of Ireland.

GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
As with the other runs, NW'lies cover the UK. This time 850hPa temperatures
range from +1C over NW Scotland to +4C over SE England. The winds become
westerlies at T+144 as the ridge to the SW moves SE'wards and declines over
southern Biscay.

JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html
Low pressure covers southern Norway and a ridge lies to the west, with
NW'lies for all. 850hPa temperatures vary from +1C over Northern Ireland to
+3C over SE England. The winds become westerlies at T+144, followed by
SE'lies, southerlies and SW'lies at T+168 as high pressure moves over
England and Wales. The high builds on day 8, bringing SSW'lies for Scotland
and Northern Ireland, with light winds elsewhere.

In summary, today's continue to show a NW'ly spell, followed by increasingly
settled and warmer conditions, more especially for England and Wales.
