When are these idiots going to stop talking such pure rubbish!
First off, one of the only places in Antarctica that is getting warmer is the Antarctic Peninsula, most of the rest of the continent has been steadily cooling for quite some time. With reference to Greenland, it is mostly the coastal areas that are warming, areas high up on the ice pack are cooling. I would suggest that the only reason we are seeing any melting ice in these two areas is because of higher SST's. Additionally, I read a report recently concerning mount Kilimanjaro stating that: The air temperature at the summit is almost constant at -7c but ( wait for it ) there is less precipitation and the air is dryer now than it once was. This is the reason the Kilimanjaro ice is melting, not as a direct result of warming. Shaun Pudwell, Comments on a postcard! "Jon O'Rourke" wrote in message ... This is the reason the Kilimanjaro ice is melting, not as a direct result of warming. The warming of the surrounding continent is drying the air and hence the lack of precipitation on the mountain. The mountain peak itself cannot warm above the the temperture which is set by the adiabatic lapse rate and its height above the snow line which is set at 0C. A little more science and little less dogmatism might not go amiss. Cheers, Alastair. |

It's interesting why the Blair Government made Sir David King 'chief scientific adviser' to their globally renowned government of tosh/slosh tax and spin. In fact they also, I believe made sure the man was knighted for his services in 2003. His CV reads "Sir David has received a number of awards including: Royal Society of Chemistry, Medal and Award for Colloid and Surface (he's very good at scratching the surface)Chemistry, 1978 (UK); Royal Society of Chemistry, Tilden Lecturer, 1988/89 (UK); British Vacuum Council (that should be very useful when advising the cabinet), Medal and Award for research, 1991;Procter and Gamble (again useful when dealing with GW soft-soap)1990 " Okay. far more of a scientist than I'll ever be, but 'chief scientific advisor' on such topics as GM foods, foot and mouth disease and the biggest threat of all to the human race 'Global Warming'! Come on he's only been appointed to justify tax rises under the Fatwah against cars (the ones with honest drivers anyhow), taxpayers (the ones that work) all under the banner 'fundamentalist environmentalist declare war on those pigs and dogs who use their cars for nothing but personal use getting to work!.' In essence its almost a labour fundamentalist version of the Tonyban. Tony ban this, Tony ban that. Okay I'm ranting, but let's look at least one, of this motley crew of GW protagonist. Ken Zen Livingstone. A man who hates the infidel car owner so much he bans them (at a price) from the centre of London. He argues the disruption to the free movement of Londoners and the pollution caused by those anonymous vehicle drivers, is a price to high to pay! Unless you fork out a fiver of course, but then the self styled Mullah organises a formula 1 race stunt in the middle of London causing total traffic disruption and pollution. Look I'm talking like babbling idiot now. Those that bother to read this will think I'm plain mad or simply ignorant, ah - that reminds me David King, that's where I went off the rails. Come back Michael Meecher El Nino beseecher Your wish is my command! Here he is writing to the Guardian along with your other old chum Jihn Gummer. Enjoy; Time to tackle industrial emissions Wednesday July 7, 2004 The Guardian We write as former environment ministers to call upon the government to take tough measures to tackle the increasing threat of global climate change. The alarm bells are ringing loud and clear, and cannot be ignored. Over recent months a panel of leading international scientists have predicted that climate change may lead to extinction of a quarter of the world's species by 2050; the World Health Organisation has warned that the health of millions of people will be damaged if world temperatures continue to rise; and the government's chief scientific adviser, Sir David King, says that climate change is a far greater threat to the world than international terrorism. The prime minister says climate change is the most important environmental issue facing the world, but he must back his words with firm action. One important area is industrial emissions. The government's proposals under the EU emissions trading regime could result in an increase in climate-changing emissions from industry. This is unacceptable, and sets a dangerous precedent. Failure to tackle industrial emissions will require much bigger cuts from other sectors to meet our climate targets. This will include transport and domestic sectors, both of which have seen carbon dioxide emissions rise over the past 10 years. We applaud the prime minister for continuing the UK's leading international role on climate change, but a failure to take decisive action at home will undermine the UK's credibility. The EU emissions trading scheme is his big test - and he must not fail it.
