just an open question for philip eden. In your book you wrote some years ago
you said your two busiest days were the "hurricane" day of 1987 and the last hottest day of all time in 1990. Are they all radio tv etc preparing you for another very busy day on wed or thu just in case the record is broken? seems to me there is too much cloud about today and i wonder if even 35 will be made and i turns out as media hype . i agree with an earlier post forecasters seem to have missed the effect of this cloud and there seem to be more showers about. I hope im wrong |

The BBC overdid the heat last time, and with all the media hype this time
its even worse. A hour of any radio station you hear "100F" three or four times here in London. I think it will get close to the record, but not beat it. Tom |

I hate to think how my answering machine's coping at home! Here, after yesterday's 37.6C we made 37.8C today (provisional figures from a thermometer in a hedge ... the AWS is in the next field and I can't interrogate that while I'm here so I'll have to wait till I get home to find out how hot it's really been.
