In the last few days I have had a stunning example of the extent of this
phenomenon. I have been doing a bit of reglazing and reconstruction of the little lean-to at the back of the house and this involves removing large panes of glass. Ouch! The panes are 16" by 56" and while doing this and that I place the pane flat on the grass. On carefully picking it up about an hour later the water on the underside positively *runs* off the glass. There has been only 4 mm rain here in the last fortnight and the grass seems dry. It hardly seems to matter whether the sun is out or not. It's transpiration without the evapo. With nicely sliced fingers, Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |
