Brief thunderstorm here between 1940 and 2000 BST, plenty of thunder and
lightning, and 11mm rain fell in 20 minutes. -- Steve Loft, Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire. 1417ft ASL http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/weather/ Free weather softwa http://cumulus.nybbles.co.uk/ Experimental webcam: http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/webcam.php |

Still going here in Carluke, Lanarkshire, around 1 hour so far, probably
peaking at 5 or 6 per minute, now eased to 1 or 2 per minute, some cracking CG and gunshot style sound effects! Yet to venture out to the non-computerised rainguage, would estimate 15 to 20mm. Sferics system picking up around 73 fixes UK area per 5 minutes. Stuart |

We've just had a spectacular light show and another 6mm of rain in just a few minutes. AWS showed a peak rainfall rate of just over 100mm/hr. -- Steve Loft, Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire. 1417ft ASL http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/weather/ Free weather softwa http://cumulus.nybbles.co.uk/ Experimental webcam: http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/webcam.php |

Yep, heaviest rain of the day so far, only 13.1mm in previous storm.
Lightning rate well up, 10 per hour, almost continuous thunder, will measure rain when done. "Steve Loft" wrote in message ... Sorry about the delay in the post.
The double whammie moved over Wishaw too. First storm at 9pm contained a lot of fork lightning to the south and east, hence it must've been spectacular indeed with you Stuart. 10mm from that one with a peak rate at around 40mm/hour. rather short lived / fast moving. Second storm had the heavier rainfall here and some spectacular forks in the nighttime sky. Could see the lightning approach for a good hour beforehand, around the time it would have been in Steve's vacinity, and then at midnight it was overhead and the heavens opened. 15mm from this and a peak rate close to 60mm/hour. The rate of lightning subsided quickly soon after midnight.
