Default [WR] N Cumbria big t storm

Well, big by recent standards. I've been out under the gazebo watching
the most fantastic display of cc lightning - seemed like it was all
around me. Accompanied by thunder and very heavy rain, but never
directly overhead. So frustrating trying to point the camera, and even
more frustrating that my digital doesn't have a B setting, so I used the
OM1 and I will have to WAIT for the photos. They'll be crap, but I want
to know straight away. I should say the storm lasted about an hour - its
drifting away to the north west I think .

It was great wasn't it!

I'm from Whitehaven, and it too never got directly overhead, but I had a
good time out in it with me coat on.

It's starting to rain again now - fingers crossed!!

Hi Anita - yes, we've been sitting with the lights out watching the same
storm over here in NW Cumbria. Very dramatic. It was hard to decide which
direction to look - the lightning was first north, then west then behind us.
It lasted more than an hour here - maybe 2, on and off, and it's started
raining again so there may be more to come.

The poor dog huddled, trembling, in the corner of the kitchen throughout,
while I sat in the darkened conservatory playing Northumbrian pipe tunes on
a tenor recorder while I watched the drama outside - don't know why, really,
but it just seemed appropriate at the time - thunder appreciates a good
soundtrack. (I know you'll appreciate this bit!)

the hour

I'm afraid you leave yourself open here to the question - was it the
storm causing the dog to huddle in the corner ? )

The storm probably started some time before I noticed - we can be noisy
people, and also had the lights blazing in nearly every room (so much
for the environment). The house martins, which are now out of the nest
most of the time, were back in it and tucked up in bed early last night.

Oh, me too! A couple of years ago I had my modem fried by a thunderstorm
while I was online. I'll never take that chance again. I was told I was
lucky it was only my modem - it could have killed the whole machine.

I've got one of those surge protection sockets that has phone line
protectors as well, but I still disconnected the modem at the height of
the storm.

I did walk into that one, didn't I? And you're not far from the truth here,
as that particular dog cannot stand most woodwind instruments, which is a
pity as our business consists mainly of repairing and testing the things.
She cries if you play flutes, clarinets, saxes and most recorders, which is
why I was playing a tenor - it's a bit lower so, presumably, doesn't have as
many high harmonics.

Sorry folks - this is getting a bit OT. Er....... the sun is shining today
and the heavy, oppressive atmosphere has gone. Will that do?
