Default BBC news be ashamed of yourself

Of course we know it's been warm for decades. Of course cars alone won't
change the climate but, fwiw, I think it likely that our actions will change
the worlds climate by the ammount that the IPCC think we will.

Rubbishing the BBC, or climatologists, is easy. Offering alternative
credible analysis I think less so - do you have one? Whatever I think the
BBC FAR better than any other broadcaster, I'll go it alone and defend
them!

Just been watching the appaling lead sory on bbc1's dumbed down news
broadcast. what a tradgedy that our national broadcaster has sunk to this
media hype dribble. BBC news you should be ashamed of yourself. A few days
hot weather and its time to drag out a global warming expert. The bbc's
science department are anything but scientific. They have no comprehension
of the miniscule amount of difference for example that worlwide car

traffic
actually makes. The bbc used to be a trusted source of information, not
anymore. BBC1 1 o clock news hang your head in shame.

Surely this is a situation where it is/was possible, perhaps even very, that
the record would be broken? Do I sense the use of hindsight

Obviously we value your views, considering how long you have been a
poster here and how often you have contributed useful and stimulating
ideas to our discussions. Perhaps you would like to draft an email to
the BBC expressing your concerns? Actions speak louder than words,
after all.

Clearly, it would be a tragedy if the actions of this nation and this
nation's main broadcaster caused you to leave for foreign parts, but
rest assured we will respect your wishes.

Default BBC news be ashamed of yourself

Here, here........
I'm relieved others are sitting up and taking notice.
I used to rate the BBC news highly, but I think a more professional service
is available on Channel 4 ( and even Channel 5 in the evening).

What particularly irks me about the BBC news these days (especially in the
evening) is the awful choregraphing of the whole thing.

At 18:15 precisely, the strangely orange-tinted George Allegiah (or whoever)
gets up and stands beside the "Big Screen", gives us a few seconds chat, the
film runs, and next time we see him, he's back in his seat. What IS the
point of that?
And the animated Fergus Walsh has his stint with the "Big Screen" with a
host of unnecessary graphics and animations. It's a bit like a web site -
they CAN do animations, so they WILL do animations - 'cos it's fun (and in
may cases on the web, boringly overkill).

The important items become "top stories" reminiscent of Newsround for kids.

The news presenters address each other all the time as if we, the audience,
were merely eavesdroppers and not really in the loop at all - I find that
most infuriating.

And the OB reporters seem to have all developed nodding-dog syndrome at the
beginning of their respective piece - what's all that about?

The gravitas and immediacy have all but disappeared, and been replaced with
a gaudy Playschool burlesque which I, for one, always associated with ITV.

i find the worst part is at the end of a news story they then repeat telling
you what the story was about, i think they treat the audience as if they
were 3 years old, and the grotesque two shot of one presenter reading whilst
the other gazes vacantly in to space or looks lovingly at the other is
enough to make one sick.

And re chanel four news well this is of course about the only serious news
programme along with bbc2's newsnight that we have left.

Can't argue with that.

BBC1 is especially tripe these days and seems to be increasingly aimed
at those with an IQ of less than 20. The actual presenters/newsreaders
all *come across* as being particularly unintelligent.

ITV1 is arguably worse, if that's possible.

I've offered them my constructive criticisms (politely put!) in the
past, but if they even bother to reply (which is rare) I just get a
stock reply which basically says that they'll ignore what I say and do
what the heck they like.

The BBC seems to have developed a new respect for varying opinions these
days, and that is refreshing and to be encouraged.

For example (and a bit OT I know), tonight they launched a powerful
anti-Microsoft diatribe, particularly focussing on the Windows Media Player,
, despire the fact that this is the only standard that their webisite
supports for listening to their radio stations. I have personally complained
to them about this being the owner of a non-Windows computer, so I wait in
hope.

But, coming back on topic, today they reported the highsest temperature in
the Midlands as a figure rather below the 32.7C that I recorded. This is
supported by the maxima from other local stations (Mountsorrel 32,9, Oadby
34.2, Bablake 32.0).
