writes Anne Burgess wrote: The Met Office site now has warnings for South-West Scotland, South-East Scotland, and various other areas including 'Eastern Counties', whatever that means. Today's forecast on the same site for North-East Scotland is mainly dry and bright, with increasing risk of rain later tonight, so I have to assume that 'Eastern Counties' is misleading and doesn't in fact include all eastern counties in Britain. The areas are defined on the MetO website at http://www.meto.gov.uk/weather/europe/uk/uk.html 'Eastern Counties' is/are well to the south of Scotland. I'm not sure of the logic but I see that Oxford, Witney and Abingdon are in SE England but Eastbourne, Hastings and Rye are not. Norman. I'm off to find my garden chair, a sun hat and a good book ....
Anne Yesterday saw prolonged sunshine, 23.9 degrees, light winds in Penzance, but you probably wouldn't have thought so from the way the weather was summarised. We had our rain Sunday morning. Graham I changed my mind, clarted myself with factor 25 and went down to the Lein Nature Reserve for a walk in the sunshine. The car thermometer (which I am not sure that I trust) was reading 25șC. It was very pleasant with the cooling effect of the breeze; there were white horses on the sea, so it must have been about Force 4. Amazingly, there were clouds of butterflies around - mostly Scotch Argus, but also Speckled Wood, Meadow Brown and Common Blue. I wonder that they can manage to fly at all in such windy conditions. Still no sign of rain - not a cloud in sight. Anne |

I'd agree Dave.
I was thinking about it as I went to work this morning in Dulwich. The skies were gloomy, a surreal light, and it was pelting it down but in a strange way it all looked rather beautiful-a sort of eerie atmosphere. After whinging criticism by twerps like me the met were pretty much justified in those "severe weather" warnings. "Dave.C" wrote in message . uk... Having been known to occasionally criticise the accuracy of forecasts ;-( I would say that this current situation has been pretty well forecast. I think several of us were getting very sceptical and this was probably due to the rainfall being about 18 hours later than expected. Mind you, I suppose a hell of a difference if you'd cancelled an outdoor event on the strength of it. Dave |

One thing I've noticed since living in Devon is how rubbish the information on radio is. Quite often max. temps are given for cities such as Cardiff, London, Manchester etc but no mention of temperatures in Devon. Also we tend to get lumped into "southern England" when our weather is often very different.
