would say that this current situation has been pretty well forecast. I
think several of us were getting very sceptical and this was probably due to
the rainfall being about 18 hours later than expected. Mind you, I suppose a
hell of a difference if you'd cancelled an outdoor event on the strength of
it.

Depends what forecast you listen\watch in my opinion.
I have been watching the BBC presentations, and for where I'm living,
(Kent), I have to strongly disagree.
As far as I'm concerned the forecasts have been apalling.
Most people who live in this part of the world are now totally confused.
This morning we had an absolute deluge. Was hardly made a mention last
night. The night before weather warnings galore, and we got zilch. This is
par for the course, now... We get most snow when it's not forecast, and none
when it is. We get strong winds when it is forecast and none when it is.
This is par for the course. Then there is the problem of 'regions', although
this is used as a good 'cover' ploy.
And the list goes on etc etc.
The blame lies with many 'areas' which we have delved on many times in this
newsgroup, but the METO are not the main cause... In my opinion.
I think people have to realise accurate, detailed forecasts are a thing of
the past now because of the 'issues' in the modern world that we ave
discussed many times in this newsgroup.
By the way, I saw something amazing last night on a forecast. I think it was
Fish... if not apologies.
But anyway, the forecaster said.. "But it will be less humid\sticky\close
(can't remember the word but you get the idea) than last night" ... now
this is something I hardly ever hear nowadays. Useful, genuine, honest
information on a TV forecast instead of some 'speak' against a lawsuit.

The forecasts told we would get much rain last night (we got none) - they
said it would be very warm overnight (min was 15), and that the rain would
fall heavily all day today.

As at 1100 local, it remains bright and sunny ... almost clear skies with
the occasional white wisp ... and bordering on hot.

According to the news, Scotland is in the grip of foul weather and virtually
under water. It is strange how they manage to miss the words 'parts of' out
of their sentences in order to get a headline grabbing blanket approach.

Perhaps it will rain here later then. I would prefer it didn't ... well,
not much.

Well, I have to disagree.

Last night there was a severe weather warning on the weather slot after the ten
o' clock news, showing widespread disruption due to flooding today in this area.

The Met Office site now has warnings for South-West Scotland, South-East
Scotland, and various other areas including 'Eastern Counties', whatever that
means. Today's forecast on the same site for North-East Scotland is mainly dry
and bright, with increasing risk of rain later tonight, so I have to assume that
'Eastern Counties' is misleading and doesn't in fact include all eastern
counties in Britain.

Onlineweather is predicting moderate rain showers for Elgin, with 80% risk of
precipitation for today, and light rain tonight.

Weatheronline says Elgin will be cloudy this morning, sunny periods this
afternoon.

On Ananova the nearest place is Forres, where there is apparently to be a sunny
morning, light rain in the afternoon and heavy rain later.

The current reality is that we have still had no rain, and it is hot, sunny and
almost cloudless again, albeit with the same brisk south-easterly wind.

I'm off to find my garden chair, a sun hat and a good book ....

If 2/3 of Scotland is indeed having foul weather, then 'much of Scotland' is
indeed applicable. But to imply by omission that the whole of Scotland is
affected is plain wrong.

It is a similar distance from the Mull of Galloway to Muckle Flugga as from the
Scilly Isles to Berwick-upon-Tweed, and it is very rare for the weather to be
similar over the whole of Scotland, any more than over the whole of England or
any other country of comparable size in these latitudes.

Is it any wonder that the world in general, and specifically that part of it
south of the Watford Gap, has some very strange perceptions about Scotland's
climate?
