Browsing through the 12z SYNOPs today I noticed the following in the
northern Arabian Gulf: At Kuwait the air temp was 45.7c and the dewpoint -0.8c. Only 120 miles away, on the other side of the gulf, Bushehr on the Iranian coast had an air temp of 34.6c and a dewpoint of 27.9c. It's all to do with the wind direction, of course, blowing from the NW today. The sea temperature in the Bushehr SYNOP was 33.4c so no relief from the heat in the sea :-) Norman. A place I monitor regularly is Ahwaz, Iran, about 100 miles north of the
northern end of the Gulf. In summer the max is a very steady 45-47°C with dew point 0° to 10°C. Only very occasionally does the Gulf air blow inland, raising the DP to an appalling 25°C or more. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |

You posted me there, Norman, in 1978, just before the balloon went up, do you remember? As they used to say in that part of the world (and probably still do) ... the Gulf is the a**ehole of the world, and Bushehr is 400 miles up it gr Philip Eden |

I hope you recovered :-) I never had the pleasure of going there myself. The nearest I got to were Kharg Island, Lavan Island, Abadan and Ras al Khafji - all slightly off the main tourist routes :-) As you say - happy memories! Norman.
