US Hurricanes
Added [Thursday August 12 2004 : 2:47:28 PM]

It's not usual that we would pay so much attention to movements across the
big pond but two new developments are being closely watched by
meteorologists around the world as Tropical Storm Bonnie is set to make
landfall across Florida late today then more worryingly Hurricane Charley as
a Category 3 status hurricane during Saturday. You have to go back to 1906
when Florida last experienced two back to back storms, governer Jeb Bush has
already called a state of emergency and evacuation of the pan handle has
started.

My Comment:

Well, we had our taste of it with masses of rain
from cyclone Alex. It seems that the rest of this summer maybe determined by
these storms in one form or another.

In case some here aren't aware of the site, the following is quite good
for a 'general news' look at how things are shaping up:-

http://weather.yahoo.com/

for the official word, use:-

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

I remember the last "Hurricane Charley" - the remenants of this storm in
1986 wrecked the late summer Bank Holiday that year.

Thanks Martin
If only we had videos like the AccuWeather Breaking Weather News on the web
or events in the UK....

I assume its only the BBC that do web videos for us?

NHC is an excellent site. So quick to load on a slow connection. Obviously
designed by sensible people.

Agreed: I used to use it a lot when I used to work in the NMC here in
Bracknell. It, and it's 'sister' sites for the Pacific would make good
models for some other services to follow - no names, no pack drill ;-)

There's an excellent satellite loop of Charley at

http://hadar.cira.colostate.edu/ramsdis/online/RSOgeflt
..html

It is updated approximately every 10 minutes.

'interesting' pictures about to appear from the Tampa area shortly.
