Hours of heavy rain in the extreme NW and north of the Netherlands on
Thursday night led to very high rainfall totals and some flooding problems.

Most of the province of Friesland in the NW had 25 to 40 mm rain - in the
area north and east of Harlingen on the NW coast through Leeuwarden to
Groningen some places reported 80 to 100 mm and in the area round Emmeloord
on the east side of the IJsselmeer about 85 mm fell.

Some totals in 24 hours to 18z on Friday:

KNMI sites - Hoorn on Terschelling 41 mm, Groningen-Eelde 52 mm,
Leeuwarden 77 mm.

Other sites - Harlingen 56 mm, Boijl near Heerenveen 59 mm, De Blesse SE
of Heerenveen 67 mm, Appelscha near Assen 75 mm, Zuidhorn west of
Groningen 82 mm, Dokkum NE of Leeuwarden 86 mm - in 72 hours 124 mm has
fallen there, Anjum near the north coast 97 mm.

On Friday repeated heavy showers in the Westland area around Rotterdam and
The Hague led to falls of over 30 mm in many places and over 50 mm in
ome - Rotterdam Airport KNMI site had 42 mm in 24 hours to 18z.

Other sites in the Rotterdam area - Oostvoorne 53 mm, Ouddorp 59 mm,
Maassluis 65 mm, Maasland 67 mm.
